Basketball is played in the city of New York and in the dusty plains of the Africa. People play the game where ever there is a ball. The game is played to get the ball into a ring like an object.

Unlike the rest of the sports which require more people and a lot of equipment to play the sport, this only requires the ball and the willingness to play the game. You can find more about our partners at Boca Home Health.

The very first basketball kind of game might have been already played by the early Olmec people of ancient Mexico more than 500 years ago.

They are the people who played the game first. It is said that the Aztec and Mayan cultures also had games similar to basketball. The only difference is that they used skulls instead of a rubber ball of their enemies.

The first basketball game as we know today was played on January 20th, 1892 in Springfield, Massachusetts. A doctor from Canada, Dr. James Naismith invented the game for the YMCA club to play during the month’s winter.

There are only five simple rules set by Naismith that are still in place today. Some of the rules have changed a bit, and the new rules have been introduced more since then, like the game bouncing in the original game was prohibited in today’s sport.

Among the 13 rules designed, nine have been either changed completely or modified and kept in the modern game of basketball. The rest of the rules have been disregarded.

The very first game happened long back has 18 players in it, or say 9 players for a team. It was the standard team for the baseball teams that play even today. Since the time Naismith or the YMCA did not have the money to design a new ball, they used to play with the soccer ball.

The whole concept of the game was to play the game for 30 minutes and the final score was to 1-0. Halfway through the game, Willian R. Chase designed a new ball for the game and set a new rule for the game that the ball must go into a peach basket. This is how the game of Basketball has emerged. It was during that time, someone has suggested the name, Basketball.

The popularity of the game grew over the next few years and most of the YMCA club centers in the Northern Eastern United States, and the Southern Canada had facilities to accommodate players.

However, within less than a decade, most of the YMCA centers began to ban the game as it had a very rough style to play. The other amateur groups picked up the slack and that gave rise to the new Basketball leagues that began forming including the Amateur Athletic Union and the Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
